Favicon not showing in IE 7?

I have this in the head section.

%26lt;link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" %26gt;

Shows in FF but not IE....

Also...how come sites like yahoo have no link for favicon.ico and they have a favicon showing?

If you have a favicon.ico file located at the root of your site directory, many browsers will pull it in even if it isn't explicitly linked.

As for IE7, try to add another link element with the rel attribute set to "icon". I'm not sure if that will work, but I've read that it is the recommended practice to use two link elements.

IE has to have the site saved as a favorite before it starts showing the favicon. A trick you could try is to grap the favicon with the mouse and move it around a bit and then refresh the page with a Ctrl+F5.

Yahoo's favicon is loaded by a script I believe. So no meta tag needed directly. Possibly the meta tag with favicon is a document.write statement.
